NO FINES CONCRETE

As the name suggests, this concrete lacks good aggregate. The coarse aggregate particles were found to have a cement paste coating of up to 1.3 mm around them. No-fines concrete, therefore, contains a multitude of voids that are responsible for its low strength.

However, large voids provide good thermal insulation, and these voids are large enough to prevent the movement of water through the concrete from the capillary action.

The compressive strength of no-fines concrete is significantly lower than that of conventional concrete and depends on cement total content and grading.

Capacity usually varies from 1.5 MPa to 15 MPa. In live mixtures, the cement content is 70 to 130 kg per cubic meter.

Concrete, which may be coated with cement paste due to the absence of a large surface area of fine aggregate particles.

Thus the cost of this concrete is lower than conventional concrete. It does not separate, so can fall from a considerable height.

However, it must be vibrated for a very short period of time otherwise the cement paste will drain.
