Test on limestone | Sendimentory Rocks- Civil learners

Tests on limestones:

Limestone is examined to determine the quality of limestone. Testing is conducted on limestone to determine the suitability of limestone, and detailed chemical tests are carried out in the laboratory.

tests on Limestone

The following are Tests on limestone:

( 1) Physical properties
(2) Heat test
(3) Acid test.

(1) Physical properties:

The physical properties of lime can be estimated by its color, odor, texture, etc. White indicates pure limestone. Blue-gray, brown, Ga color indicates hydraulic limestone.

Hydraulic limestone tastes like clay and smells earthy. If the limestone is shining or shiny, it indicates the presence of free salts. Similarly, the presence of bumps or bumps indicates that it is a quick lime.

Pure limestone is indicated by white color. Hydraulic limestones are indicated by bluish grey, brown, or some dark colors. The taste of hydraulic limestones is clayey and they give out an soily smell.

The limestones indicate the presence of free sand when the shining particles are present on the surface of the limestones.

(2) Heat test:

A piece of dry limestone is weighed and heated in an open fire for few hours. A sample is weighed again and loss of weight gives the amount of carbon dioxide. From this data, the rate of calcium carbonate in limestone is worked out.

(3) Acid test:

A sample of limestone is taken and weaker hydrochloric acid is poured on it. If the content of the calcium carbonate is
high, there will be dashing effect effervescence and less formation of the backlog. Such action will indicate pure limestone.

On the other hand, when the content of calcium carbonate is low, there is less efficiency and greater structure of the residue.
Such action refers to impure or hydraulic limestone.

Limestone is examined to determine the quality of limestone. To determine exactly the Suitability of lime, detailed chemical tests are carried out in the laboratory.
